Africa-Press – Uganda. Jinja-based Gaddafi and Proline face off tomorrow (Tuesday) in the final of the Fufa Big League to determine the third team to join Arua Hill and Tooro United in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League this upcoming season.
Gaddafi did not just qualify for the promotion playoff final but they did it in emphatic style by crushing Nyamityobora 4-0 in the first semifinal played at the Fufa Technical Centre in Njeru.
Coach Hassan Zungu had promised an entertaining and possession football and his charges delivered with flair as his blend of experienced and talented youngsters displayed a commanding performance from the onset.
Ronald Bithum set the tempo with a thumping header off a James Otim sumptuous delivery to put the ‘Soldier Boys’ ahead in the 18th minute.
The forward almost grabbed his brace five minutes later but was hacked inside the box for a penalty after a sleek move involving forward Joel Madondo. Mark Bamukyaye made no mistake from 12 yards out.
But Bithum was not yet done. He completed his brace and Gaddafi’s third shortly after the half-hour mark, heading home Otim’s well-weighted corner.
“We did the easiest thing in football – get the ball, find spaces and pass it,” Zungu said.
The halftime lead was comfortable enough for Zungu to take the luxury of resting Madondo, Bithum, Bamukyaye, goalkeeper Paul Mujampani and Steven Munguchi in the second half.
“We had the game in our hands after the first half. That gave us an option to rest key players for the final,” Zungu said.Richard Makumbi who has now failed to promote a team for two consecutive seasons blamed their loss on disorganization and also announced his resignation as Nyamityobora coach.
Umony saves Proline
Blacks Power’s Elias Emokori headed the Bukedea side ahead in the 18th minute but Brian Mato powered home a long-range drive after the break before his namesake Umony brushed in the late winner for Proline.
