Gen Sejusa Blasts 'Hooligans' Behind Attack on Bobi in Kiruhura

Africa-Press – Uganda. Former spymaster and senior National Resistance Army (NRA) officer, Gen David Sejusa, has condemned the violent clashes that forced National Unity Platform (NUP) president Robert Kyagulanyi, alias Bobi Wine, to abandon his planned rally in Kiruhura District on Wednesday.

Bobi Wine had earlier managed to hold a rally in Kazo District before his convoy was attacked with stones by stick-wielding individuals in Kiruhura, a known stronghold of President Museveni.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Gen Sejusa described the attackers as “hooligans” and cautioned against trivialising acts of political intolerance.

“Those are not Banyankore. those are HOOLIGANS. HOOLIGANISM has NO TRIBE,” Sejusa wrote.

He said such acts of intolerance have been witnessed in different parts of the country and blamed them on “myopic leaders” who fuel division.

“We have been seeing these flashes of intolerance, usually masterminded by myopic leaders, surface in all areas of Uganda from time to time. Our job is to condemn them and deal with the perpetrators decisively,” he said.

Sejusa cited previous incidents of communal tension across Uganda, saying leaders should work to “reject this dangerous cancer and uproot it.”

“Those thugs with sticks must be punished, and the organisers exposed,” he stated, adding that the chaos had ironically amplified Bobi Wine’s visibility.

“In fact, they made MORE NEWS FOR BOBI WINE THAN IF THEY HAD ALLOWED HIM TO DO HIS THING AND MOVE ON. If I may ask, who still remembers when he was in Kalenga? Or Aloi? But now Bobi in Kiruhura is in the news. I even saw it on a Kenyan channel, imagine! These are just stupid people,” Sejusa remarked.

The incident in Kiruhura drew widespread condemnation from opposition figures , who accused local authorities of failing to ensure security during political activities.

“We encountered groups of well-mobilised goons clad in yellow T-shirts armed with sticks to launch attacks at us under the protection of the regime police,” Kyagulanyi later posted on his X (formerly Twitter).
