Africa-Press – Uganda. Supporters of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) in Greater Mukono Districts have raised concerns over continued government inaction on key issues affecting local communities, warning that the party risks losing more support if these are not addressed.

Speaking at the launch of the Greater Mukono Resistance Taskforce an initiative aimed at mobilizing support for President Museveni and other NRM flag bearers several supporters expressed frustration over the government’s failure to deliver on past promises.

Hadijja Nakato, a resident from the Buvuma Islands district, said she had personally suffered harassment at the hands of the army on Lake Victoria. According to her, the army’s original purpose on the lake to regulate illegal fishing has now turned into a campaign of extortion.

“The officers confiscate fish and then resell it,” Nakato claimed. “Their presence on the lake is no longer serving the fishing industry, and if this continues, NRM support will continue to decline.”

Supporters also cited rising poverty in Buvuma after thousands were forced out of fishing, with many men reportedly jailed. They warned that if these issues are not urgently addressed, the party’s popularity will suffer ahead of future elections.

Another concern raised was the unresolved issue of land compensation. According to locals, many residents of Buvuma lost their land to a palm oil project nearly seven years ago but have yet to receive compensation.

John Ntale, chairman of the Greater Mukono Resistance Taskforce, expressed determination to help the party regain lost ground in Mukono constituency, despite these challenges.

However, he criticized the National Resistance Secretariat for failing to support grassroots mobilization.

“There is a lack of financial support, and even the little funds allocated are mismanaged by some leaders,” Ntale noted.

Dr. Brenda Tibamwenda, Assistant Commissioner for Monitoring and Evaluation from the National Secretariat for Patriotism, acknowledged the concerns and commended the youth for their continued dedication to the party

. She assured attendees that their issues had been noted and would be forwarded to the President for a permanent solution.

In the 2021 general elections, President Museveni lost in all four districts of Greater Mukono.

However, the NRM managed to secure three parliamentary seats, with MPs Amos Lugolobi, Diana Mutasingwa, and Robert Migadde Ndugwa
