Africa-Press – Uganda. A resident of Kayenje Ward, Bufunda Division, Bigira was widely celebrated for his wisdom, leadership, and unwavering dedication to the community.

Ibanda District is in mourning following the passing of David Bigira, an 84-year-old District Councilor representing the elders. Bigira passed away on Tuesday at Kampala Hospital after a courageous battle with prostate cancer.

A resident of Kayenje Ward, Bufunda Division, Bigira was widely celebrated for his wisdom, leadership, and unwavering dedication to the community.

His passing leaves a profound void in the district leadership and among the people he served tirelessly for years.

Godwins Oulanya Muhumuza, the Ibanda District Speaker and colleague to the late councilor, confirmed the sad news, describing Bigira as an invaluable source of knowledge and a cornerstone of development.

“We have lost an encyclopedia and a pillar of our district’s progress. He was not just a leader but a man who united people, always encouraging reconciliation among those in conflict,” Muhumuza said.

In addition to his leadership, Bigira was deeply committed to farming, a profession he pursued alongside his public service. His passion for agriculture inspired many, particularly the younger generation, to embrace farming as a sustainable livelihood.

Ibanda District Chairperson Happy Herbert Mayanja paid a heartfelt tribute to the late councilor, describing him as a father figure and a unifying force in the community.

“The late Bigira was more than just a leader; he was a father, a parent to many, and a friend to all. His contribution to farming and community development will never be forgotten,” Mayanja remarked.

Community members echoed these sentiments, highlighting Bigira’s legacy as a peacemaker. His role in mediating conflicts and fostering harmony earned him deep respect and admiration.

“He always had a way of bringing people together and ensuring peace prevailed. That is something we will deeply miss,” said one local resident.

Bigira’s passing is a significant loss not only to the elders he represented but also to the district leadership, which greatly benefited from his vast experience and wisdom.

Throughout his years of service, he prioritized the needs of his people with integrity, humility, and dedication.

Preparations for Bigira’s funeral are underway, with district officials and community members coming together to pay their final respects.

“He will always be remembered for his integrity, humility, and dedication to Ibanda District,” Muhumuza said.

David Bigira leaves behind a legacy of leadership, unity, and service that will continue to inspire generations to come.
