Africa-Press – Uganda. The Judiciary of Uganda together with development patners and wellwishers have convened at the Judiciary Headquarters in Kampala today to officially usher in the new law year 2026.
This event marks the beginning of the Judiciary calendar year and has come at the end of a 3-day judges conference that was held in Munyonyo.
All members and staff of the judiciary including administrative staff, registrars, magistrates, high court judges, court of appeal and Supreme Court justices are in attendance.
The Inspector General of Police, Commission General of Prisons, Director of Public Prosecutions , Solicitor General, Attorney General, Minister of Justice and Constitutional affairs and Permanent Secretary to Judiciary are also in attendance.
The Chief Justice has invited Speaker of Parliament and President of Uganda to oversee the function.
The gist of the function is expected to rotate around expectations in the administration of justice ahead of the new year. Continued use of ADR in resolving court disputes, integration of technology in court processes, judicial officers’ wellness, artificial intelligence and citizen engagement are some of the aspects that have been emphasized as key drivers to efficient and effective administration of justice ahead of the new law year.
Judiciary also welcomes the establishment of 8 new Court of Appeal circuits that shall be operational upcountry in this new law year. This is in an effort to extend justice to as many Ugandans as possible.
Judiciary emphasizes that it is open to all actors especially advocates, although the Uganda Law Society has organized a parallel event to usher in the new law year on their own, seperate from the function organized by the judiciary.
