Africa-Press – Uganda. Businessman Moses Kalangwa has rejected the outcome of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) elections for the Central Region Central Executive Committee (CEC) seat, after Microfinance Minister Haruna Kyeyune Kasolo was declared winner.

Kalangwa, who lost to Kasolo in the highly contested race, claims the process was riddled with irregularities that undermined the credibility of the vote.

His camp accuses the NRM Electoral Commission of presiding over a flawed election marred by tribal bias, the involvement of ineligible voters, and unexplained changes in the final tally.

Flanked by his supporters, including party official Justine Namere, Kalangwa said they would formally petition the NRM Tribunal, which handles internal electoral disputes. “We cannot accept these results. This was not a free and fair contest,” he told journalists, insisting that a fresh election must be organized to restore confidence in the process.

The businessman further accused NRM Electoral Commission chairperson Dr. Tanga Odoi of conspiring to tilt the outcome in Kasolo’s favour.

He also appealed directly to President Museveni, the party chairman, to intervene and safeguard fairness in party primaries.

While the NRM Electoral Commission declared Kasolo the rightful flag bearer for the Central Region CEC seat, Kalangwa dismissed the announcement, arguing that he had led in most parts of the region before last-minute alterations to vote tallies reversed the trend.

“Our supporters delivered us victory, but what we saw at the declaration stage was a betrayal,” he said.

Kalangwa expressed gratitude to his voters but warned that persistent manipulation of internal elections could fracture party unity.

He voiced doubt over the impartiality of the NRM Tribunal, claiming its current composition is biased against candidates from outside the Baganda ethnic group.

The standoff has now shifted pressure onto the NRM leadership, with many observers watching closely to see how the party navigates the fallout.

Analysts warn that unresolved disputes within the ruling party risk deepening internal fractures ahead of future elections, at a time when President Museveni has repeatedly emphasized cohesion and discipline as the foundation of NRM’s political dominance.
