Africa-Press – Uganda. Kamuzinda FC emerged champions of the 2026 Oscar Cup Football Tournament after a tense and hard-fought final against Manywa FC at Kamuzinda Playground in Kyanamukaaka Sub-county, Masaka District.

The final ended 0–0 in normal time, forcing the match into a nail-biting penalty shootout. Kamuzinda FC held their nerve to triumph 5–4, lifting the prestigious trophy to the delight of their supporters.

The tournament, organized by Oscar Mutebi, aims to promote youth sports talent in Kyanamukaaka and the greater Masaka region.

Mutebi, associated with the office of former Vice President Edward Kiwanuka Ssekandi, stressed his commitment to nurturing young footballers and helping them reach national and professional levels.

“I started this tournament to identify and develop young talent so that they can grow and play for bigger teams in Uganda,” Mutebi said during the closing ceremony.

Hundreds of residents flocked to Kamuzinda Playground, creating a lively atmosphere as local teams battled for glory. Despite several attempts from both sides, neither Kamuzinda FC nor Manywa FC managed to score in regulation time.

In the decisive penalty shootout, Kamuzinda FC emerged victorious 5–4, sparking wild celebrations among their fans.

As champions, Kamuzinda FC received a trophy, gold medals, jerseys, and a cash prize of shs1 million shillings. Runners-up Manywa FC were awarded silver medals, jerseys, and shs500,000 , while Bulegeya FC, who finished third, received bronze medals, jerseys, and shs250,000.

Kizito Kawonawo, representing the Pookiino of Buddu County, said the tournament serves as a platform to scout talent for the upcoming Masaza Cup competitions.

“We are using such tournaments to identify players who will strengthen our team and help us reclaim the Masaza Cup. I have already spotted some talent here,” Kawonawo noted.

Local leaders, led by Kyanamukaaka Town Council Mayor Zainab Nakidde, welcomed the initiative, saying it will positively engage youth and help develop their sporting talents.

The event also featured athletics competitions, with winners awarded medals. The Oscar Cup continues to grow as a key platform for nurturing grassroots football talent in the Masaka region.
