Africa-Press – Uganda. The National Peasants Party (NPP) presidential candidate, Robert Kasibante, officially launched his 2026 campaign in Mityana District, calling on residents to support his bid and pledging reforms aimed at improving the lives of ordinary Ugandans.
Kasibante, a native of Busujju County, arrived at Kikonge Village around 2 p.m. to a warm welcome from jubilant supporters.
Crowds thronged the streets, waving party flags and chanting his name.
In some trading centres, traffic came to a standstill as residents gathered to see their “own son” seeking the country’s highest office.
From Kikonge, his convoy moved through Mityana Town before arriving at Zigoti Playground, the venue for his maiden campaign rally.
The atmosphere was electrifying, with local artists performing and party loyalists holding placards reading “Kasibante, the People’s Choice” and “Our Hope for Change.”
Addressing the crowd, Kasibante pledged to prioritize economic empowerment, starting with the construction of modern markets to support small businesses and stimulate local trade.
“Our people are hardworking, but they lack proper facilities to do business. My government will build modern markets across the country, beginning here in Mityana, to improve livelihoods and strengthen the local economy,” he said.
On foreign relations, Kasibante promised stronger ties with international partners to attract investment, trade, and development cooperation.
Regarding social services, he committed to revamping the healthcare system to ensure equitable access to quality medical care.
“Health is not a privilege; it is a right. I will ensure hospitals are well-equipped and that every Ugandan can access quality treatment,” he stated.
On education and governance, Kasibante vowed to overhaul the education system to equip children with practical skills for today’s world and pledged an uncompromising fight against corruption.
“Education will no longer be about passing exams, but about equipping our children with skills to survive in today’s world. And when it comes to corruption, I will fight it from the top down. Those who steal from Ugandans will have no safe place under my government,” he declared.
Supporters welcomed his message, saying his focus on markets, healthcare, and anti-corruption resonates with their daily struggles.
Kasibante joins a growing list of presidential aspirants traversing the country to present their manifestos ahead of the 2026 general elections, with his campaign emphasizing empowerment of peasants and returning power to the grassroots.
