Africa-Press – Uganda. The Democratic Front (DF) has declared its full preparedness to deliver quality leadership in Rubaga Division, reaffirming its commitment to issue-based politics rather than politics of insults and abuse.
This declaration came during an event at the DF headquarters, where the party unveiled several candidates vying for different positions in the forthcoming elections. Among the key announcements was the endorsement of former legislator Moses Kasibante as DF’s flagbearer for the Rubaga Division Mayoral race.
The unveiling ceremony also featured prominent political figures and defectors from the National Unity Platform (NUP) who have crossed over to DF. Among those pledging their support for Kasibante were Samuel Lubega Mukaaku and Michael Kakembo Mbwa Tekamwa, the DF Chief Whip, alongside other leaders and councillors contesting under the DF ticket.
Speaking after his nomination, Kasibante criticized the current leadership in Rubaga for failing to address residents’ pressing challenges, particularly the high tax burden and poor service delivery.
“Leadership in Rubaga has collapsed. People are grappling with heavy taxes and neglected services. I am here to restore meaningful leadership that prioritizes the needs of the community. We must also strengthen ties with the Kabaka and promote agriculture as a solution to poverty,” Kasibante stated.
DF’s Secretary General, Michael Mabikke, echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the party’s commitment to integrity-driven politics.
“We want honest, responsible leadership—not abusive politics. Our goal is to move the party forward by offering genuine leaders who reflect Buganda’s five core values,” Mabikke said.
Chief Whip Michael Kakembo assured supporters of the party’s readiness for the upcoming polls, highlighting that DF has rebuilt itself on transparency and sound political principles.
“We are not in politics to insult people; we are in politics to solve real issues that matter to Ugandans,” Kakembo noted.
Meanwhile, Samuel Lubega Mukaaku welcomed Kasibante’s endorsement, describing him as the leader Rubaga desperately needs.
The event also saw several former NUP members officially defect to DF, pledging unwavering loyalty to the party and promising to never return to their former political home.
As the election season heats up, DF’s strategic moves in Rubaga signal an intensifying battle for dominance in one of Kampala’s most politically influential divisions.
