Africa-Press – Uganda. The Katikkiro of Buganda, Charles Peter Mayiga, has arrived in Boston in the US State of Massachusetts to take part in the much-anticipated Buganda Bumu North American Convention 2025.
This annual gathering unites Kabaka’s subjects from across the US and Canada under the theme of cultural unity and development.
Accompanied by his Second Deputy, Robert Wagwa Nsibirwa, Hajj Mutaasa Kafeero, and other officials, Katikkiro Mayiga landed at Logan International Airport where he was warmly received by Buganda Kingdom representatives and local community leaders.
The welcoming delegation included Owek. Joseph Kawuki, Minister for Local Governments and Kabaka’s Tours; Henry Matovu Ndawula, the Kabaka’s representative in New England; Kato Kajubi, a retired Kabaka’s envoy; as well as Ronah Nakalyowa, Deputy Chairperson of Ggwangamujje Boston, and Fred Katende, the retired Chairperson of Ggwangamujje Boston and Treasurer of the Kabaka Foundation.
Prior to the official start of the convention, Katikkiro Mayiga is expected to meet with leaders of Ggwangamujje Boston to exchange views and discuss issues affecting Kabaka’s subjects in the diaspora.
Joseph Kawuki highlighted the importance of these discussions in strengthening the ties between the Kingdom and its people abroad.
Speaking on behalf of the New England region, Henry Matovu expressed gratitude to Kabaka Mutebi for entrusting them with the responsibility of overseeing the welfare of Buganda’s people in North America.
He commended the diaspora community for actively implementing the Kabaka’s guidance, which has led to notable improvements in their lives.
The Buganda Bumu Convention is set to officially open later this week, with cultural celebrations, developmental discussions, and strategic planning for the future of the Kingdom’s diaspora community.
