Africa-Press – Uganda. Presidential candidate John Katumba has promised to fight land grabbers in Wakiso district which, he said, is still a big menace in the area.
He made the remarks on Thursday during his rallies at Wakiso Central Market and Wakiso Taxi Park.
Katumba said a number of people have been evicted from land “by the so-called rich people” which has left residents homeless.
“When you vote me as your the next president in 2021, I will make sure that whoever takes your land by force or other actions is arraigned in court and charged with different offences,” Katumba added.
He said Wakiso is also facing challenges in health service delivery which, he said, has claimed people’s lives due to lack of medication. Katumba said it is a challenge for a big district like Wakiso to have no referral hospital, which has made it difficult for people p e to enjoy the health services.
Katumba said he will put emphasis on setting up at least two referral hospitals in Wakiso and also improve the health centres in the same district.
“We have over 400 MPs who receive huge sums of money, but when you turn to the side of health services, health centres are grappling with lack of medical supplies,” Katumba added.
Katumba also promised the Wakiso daily market traders a big market which will accommodate them together with those who operate on road pavements. This way, he urged the traders to form groups to lobby for funds from the Government.
Katumba promised to improve the lives of bodaboda riders by making their job official. He said he would get every rider registered so that when there is a donation to them, they can easily be identified.
