Africa-Press – Uganda. The Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, the Most Rev. Dr. Stephen Samuel Kaziimba Mugalu, on Tuesday hosted the Group Chief Executive Officer of Equity Bank, James Mwangi, at the Provincial Secretariat of the Church of Uganda in Namirembe.
The high-level meeting was attended by the Managing Director of Equity Bank Uganda, Gift Shoko, the Managing Director of Equity Bank Kenya, and a delegation from Equity Bank’s head office in Nairobi.
During the engagement, Archbishop Kaziimba commended the long-standing partnership between the Church of Uganda and Equity Bank, noting that the collaboration has played a significant role in advancing the Church’s mission of community transformation and socio-economic development.He expressed special appreciation to Mwangi for his personal contribution of one billion Uganda shillings, which enabled the Church of Uganda to clear the outstanding debt on Church House, one of the institution’s key assets.
“Equity Bank has consistently supported our Church projects and programmes, including those that directly uplift communities, promote economic empowerment and strengthen household transformation. We deeply appreciate this partnership, which aligns with our calling to serve both the spiritual and social needs of our people,” Kaziimba said.
In his remarks, Mwangi reaffirmed Equity Bank’s commitment to supporting faith-based institutions and development-oriented initiatives that promote inclusive growth and sustainable livelihoods.
He pledged continued support to the Church of Uganda’s development programmes, emphasising the importance of partnerships that deliver long-term social and economic impact.
The meeting underscored a shared vision between the Church of Uganda and Equity Bank to empower communities through faith, financial inclusion, leadership development and strategic investment in people-centred initiatives.
