The spirit of East African cooperation and competitive sportsmanship shone brightly as KCB Bank Uganda successfully hosted the Kenya Day – KCB Golf Tournament at the historic Uganda Golf Club. The event celebrated the strong bilateral ties and shared economic vision between Kenya and Uganda.
More than 150 top amateur golfers from clubs and corporate organizations took on the challenging Kitante course in a Stableford-format tournament. The lush fairways and fast greens demanded precision and strategy, resulting in a highly competitive day of play.
To ensure fair competition, men competed in three handicap categories—A, B, and C—while the ladies competed in two groups, A and B. A special category was dedicated to senior golfers aged 55 and above.
The overall titles went to the most consistent and skilled players over 18 holes, with the top winner receiving a return air ticket courtesy of Kenya Airways.
Eric Miller claimed the Overall Men’s Winner title with 47 points, while Joyce Kisembo secured the Overall Ladies’ Winner spot with 40 points. In the Ladies’ categories, Gloria Mbaguta topped Category A with 36 points, while Evelyn Atukunda matched that score to win Category B, and Josephine Babirye emerged victorious in Category C with 35 points. Among the men, Paul Ndyaguma won Category A with 39 points, Michael Nimoh claimed Category B with 42 points, and Alex Muwanguzi matched the 42-point mark to win Category C.
Senior honours went to Dominic Tumwesiye among the men with 37 points, while Grace Kabonero led the senior ladies with 32 points.
Side contests added more excitement to the event. Nearest to the Pin was won by Michael Muhangi among the men and Zhang Fangyi among the ladies. The Longest Drive title went to Nam Young Kim in the men’s category and to Danelle Kawalya in the ladies’ category.
Noela Byuma, Head of Marketing and Communications at KCB Bank Uganda, praised both the competitive spirit and the significance of the event.
She noted that just as golfers must balance risk and precision, KCB Bank Uganda is committed to disciplined and strategic investments that drive regional economic growth.
She emphasized that golf, a sport known for integrity and sportsmanship, serves as a powerful platform for strengthening Uganda–Kenya relations.
Representing the Kenya High Commission in Uganda, Wario Guyo highlighted Kenya Day as a celebration of unity, adding that the camaraderie displayed on the course reflects the collaboration the two nations champion in trade, tourism, and diplomacy.
Uganda Golf Club Captain, Paul Charles Rukundo, applauded the high standard of play and noted that the course was in excellent condition.
He commended KCB’s ongoing support for golf and observed that the level of amateur competition in East Africa continues to rise.
According to officials, beyond golf, KCB Group remains deeply invested in the regional sports ecosystem through motorsport sponsorships such as the Pearl of Africa Rally, as well as support for volleyball, rugby, and community development projects.
