Africa-Press – Uganda. The National Resistance Movement party leaders in Kikuube led by state minister for public service Grace Mary Mugasa and NRM district chairman Francis Kazini have set a target of 97% for NRM in Kikuube saying this will be achieved through house to house campaigns, popularising government projects in the area but also sweet talking to NRM members that lost in the primaries but have returned as independents.
These equally tasked civil servants to continue informing the general public of various projects and how much government has sent to the district for voters to appreciate and vote for the NRM government despite growing opposition in the district.
Kikuube district is represented by three members of parliament with two counties that include Buhaguzi East represented by Stephen Asera, Buhaguzi county represented by Francis Kazini with Florence Natumanya as the woman member of parliament.
In the recent concluded NRM primaries, Buhaguzi East attracted five candidates but incumbent Stephen Asera won the flag, but all the other four have returned back as independents, for Buhaguzi county four candidates took part in the flag, incumbent Francis Kazini took the day, so was with Florence Natumanya for woman Mp winning in a five women race.
However, the dust is not settled, after all candidates that participated in the NRM primaries have picked nominations for the general elections. Now in the Kikuube NRM flag bearers meeting that attracted security officers, civil servants, among other key stakeholders, candidates rose concern that the return of independents risk reducing the party support.
The district has set a target of achieving 97% for NRM in the general elections.
“When NRM losers return as independents it confuses our supporters, and this affects flag bearers, and the opposition can gain ground but also will affect us getting our 97% we hope senior party leaders can sit down these members so that NRM all NRM members can go through in the general election” Stephen Asera Mp Buhaguzi East said
While here the state minister for public service Grace Mary Mugasa asked civil servants to inform the general public of how much government has invested in the district, saying many instead keep quiet and people think government has not done a lot from granting Kikuube a district, roads, more funding in the road sector among others.
“Civil servants are A political, we can’t ask you to campaign because we have our teams to campaign, but we ask you to popularise these projects, let people know funds invested in each sector so that they can appreciate government love for Kikuube, this will help us in our campaigns” Mugasa said
Francis Kazini the Kikuube NRM Chairman also member of parliament for Buhaguzi county says their strategies will be more on popularising government projects, but also moving house to house.
“The good thing with Kikuube we have a lot to talk about, but besides we will move house to House, door to door to rally people to support NRM, we have a few cases of opposition coming through but these we can manage, so for 97% it’s very achievable, in 2021 we got 77.5% we want a higher percentage because we are not demanding the president it’s him demanding us” he said
Mugasa however warned voters against the habit of asking candidates money.
“It’s not good to vote people because they have given you money, make proper choices without influence, once you sell your vote, you will have to wait for more five years to regain the rights to choose another leader, do not sell better services, rather vote a candidate who will represent your aspirations” Mugasa guided
