King Mumbere Names New Prime Minister in Leadership Shakeup

Africa-Press – Uganda. Omusinga Charles Wesley Mumbere Iremangoma has reshuffled the leadership of the Obusinga Bwa Rwenzururu (OBR) Kingdom, appointing Benson Baritazale Kule as the new Prime Minister.

The changes were announced during a cabinet session held at the King’s residence in Kamaiba, Kasese Municipality.

The reshuffle comes after the retirement of long-serving Prime Minister Joseph Muranga Kule, who requested to be relieved of his duties due to persistent health complications.

Muranga, who has played a pivotal role in the Kingdom’s administration over the years, will now serve as a member of the Privy Council, the OBR’s highest advisory organ.

“The Kingdom owes a debt of gratitude to Muranga for his loyalty and exemplary leadership during his tenure,” said Omusinga Mumbere.

“His health and well-being are paramount, and I have accepted his humble request to step aside.”

The new Prime Minister, Benson Baritazale Kule, assumes office amid calls to consolidate unity and drive the Kingdom’s cultural and development agenda forward.

While little was immediately disclosed about his background, his appointment was welcomed with optimism by members of the royal cabinet.

Alongside the new premier, the King also elevated two other senior officials in a move aimed at bolstering the Kingdom’s leadership.

Patrick Muhesi Baluku, who has been serving as Minister of Finance, was promoted to First Deputy Prime Minister.

Juliet Best Bakoko, Minister of Gender, was appointed Second Deputy Prime Minister.

The announcements were met with applause and emotion, as cabinet members reflected on Muranga’s legacy and welcomed the new leadership with hopes for continued stability.

“These changes are part of a broader effort to strengthen the Kingdom’s leadership structure and ensure continuity in governance,” the Omusinga told his cabinet.

The remainder of the cabinet remains unchanged, with the Omusinga opting to preserve the current structure and personnel in other portfolios.

This marks the first major reshuffle since the King’s return to public engagements following years of restricted movement and legal battles.

The appointments are seen as a sign of renewed stability in the Rwenzururu Kingdom and a reaffirmation of the monarch’s focus on healing and institutional consolidation.
