Africa-Press – Uganda. The 2025 Masaza Cup semi-finals kicked off in dramatic fashion on Sunday, as visitors Kyaggwe and Ssingo claimed crucial away victories to seize the advantage ahead of the second leg.
In two tense and tactical battles, Kyaggwe edged Buweekula 1-0 at the Mubende National Training College Grounds, while Ssingo came from behind to defeat Bugerere 2-1 at the Ntenjeru Grounds.
Kyaggwe Edge Buweekula in Physical Contest
The match between Buweekula and Kyaggwe was a cagey affair dominated by a gritty midfield contest, with both sides struggling to carve out clear chances in the first half, which ended goalless.
The breakthrough came shortly after the restart when Geofrey Ssenyonga struck decisively to give Kyaggwe the lead — a vital away goal that not only settled the game but handed Kyaggwe a narrow advantage heading into the return leg. Ssenyonga’s performance earned him the Man of the Match accolade.
Despite a late surge by Buweekula in search of an equalizer, Kyaggwe’s defense held firm to preserve the slim lead and take a psychological edge back home.
“What a spectacle from the players and fans here in Mubende today,” remarked Kenneth Amanyire, Pilsner King Marketing Representative for Mubende.
“The first leg is now done, but the pressure is still on with just one-goal margins. We encourage all fans to turn up for the final push — as Pilsner King, we can’t wait to see who will claim the 2025 Masaza Cup title.”
Ssingo Stage Comeback Against Bugerere
In the second semi-final, Bugerere took the early initiative with Henry Wamala putting the hosts ahead. But Ssingo responded swiftly, leveling the game before halftime through Shaban Kayondo.
The turning point came in the 53rd minute when Bugerere squandered a golden opportunity to retake the lead — Osman Mayanja missed a crucial penalty, a costly mistake that was punished minutes later as Ismael Rwimitala scored what would prove to be the winner. His match-winning effort earned him the Man of the Match honor.
With both fixtures delicately poised, the second leg on October,19, promises high drama. Kyaggwe and Ssingo may hold slender leads, but Buweekula and Bugerere remain very much in the hunt for a place in the final at Ham Stadium.
The battle for Masaza Cup glory continues — and with only one game standing between the teams and the final, fans can expect fireworks in the decisive second legs.
