RAKAI – National Unity Platform (NUP) Presidential Candidate Robert Kyagulanyi, has attributed the suspension of Campaigns in selected cities and districts by the Electoral Commission (EC) to alleged fear by President Yoweri Museveni for his massive support in the affected areas.
Saturday (December 26, 2020), EC suspended campaigns in cities and districts including Masaka, Kampala and Wakiso among others over surge in covid cases in such areas.
However, speaking during his rally at Kibaale playground in Rakai district on Saturday, Kyagulanyi said the move is aimed at stopping him from campaigning in such areas.
“This shows Museveni is scared they know Masaka has Mathias Mpuga (Vice President NUP central region) and it will be bloody,” Kyagulanyi said.
According to EC campaign program, Kyagulanyi was supposed to have his campaign rally in Masaka city on Monday.Kyagulanyi said Museveni has been contesting with former comrades, adding that his coming into the race, scares him to the core.
“This is not an ordinary or the usual presidential race, Museveni has been running for presidency, with people that are known to him, am not saying that he has been working with them, but these are people he went to bush with,” Kyagulanyi said.He scoffed at EC for suspension of Campaigns in selected areas, saying this cannot affect the desire for Change by Ugandans.
He said; “You can suspend campaigns but you cannot suspend time for change, these people are scared and before you know it, they will be suspending elections.”
