MASAKA – National Unity Platform (NUP) Presidential Candidate Robert Kyagulanyi has suspended his Campaigns after three journalists sustained serious injuries in the scuffle between him and the police.Journalists including Ashraf Kasirye (Ghetto TV) Daniel Lutaaya (NBS TV) and Ali Mivuule (NTV Uganda) sustained injuries during the scuffle between Kyagulanyi and the police at Kyabakuza, 7kms from Masaka city, along Masaka, Mbarara road.Kyagulanyi was heading to Lwengo district, to address his supporters there.He was however blocked at Kyabakuza town, by the police who wanted him to use a different route off the main road which he resented, forcing police to use force.In the process, Kasirye who was streaming live the happenings at Kyabakuza, via Ghetto TV, was injured allegedly by a rubber bullet, which was shot direct on his head.
Eyewitnesses said Kyagulanyi who was standing in front of Kasirye narrowly survived the bullet that hit Kasirye.To save Kasirye’s life, Kyagulanyi who was Sunday (December 27, 2020) supposed to campaign in Lwengo, Bukomansimbi, and Mpigi districts, suspended his Campaigns to take Kasirye to Rubaga Hospital in Kampala, for further Management.”Kasirye is in a critical condition, so Kyagulanyi has had to suspend his Campaigns to take him to hospital, we shall be letting you know when he will resume his campaigns again,” Mpuga told journalists at Mulago regional referral hospital in Masaka.Before he was taken to Kampala, Kasirye who had been announced dead by social media users was seen trying to move his body in pain as doctors worked on him at Masaka regional referral hospital.Kyagulanyi ditched his vehicle for a government ambulance, where he sat with Kasirye who kept on fighting for his life.Mpuga condemned the police action, which he said was targeting members of the media.
