ENVIRONMENT |The National Unity Platform (NUP) presidential candidate, Robert Kyagulanyi, has promised to plant five million trees in the first year of his presidency.Kyagulanyi made the pledge on Sunday during his second rally at Oroo village in Abim district.The NUP leader castigated the current government for environmental degradation, saying it has led to unfriendly climatic conditions.He promised that after increasing salaries for soldiers by having the lowest soldier paid sh1m, he would ensure they plant a minimum of five million trees within one year.Kyagulanyi also noted that after increasing salaries of Police officers to a minimum of sh1m each, he would transform the Uganda Police Force into a friendly security agency.”Those Police officers are not bad people. They are our brothers and sisters. They don’t want to beat us. They do so on orders given to them,” he said.Kyagulanyi told the people of Abim that his government would build good schools and hospitals and ensure teachers and medical workers are paid well.As it has been the case everywhere, he has gone, Kyagulanyi yesterday kept reminding voters about their power to determine who becomes leader as Article One of the Constitution says.He also reiterated his common message of appealing to all voters to change, arguing that every vote makes a difference.While in Agago at Kalongo, where he had his first rally, Kyagulanyi promised to end land grabbing in the Acholi region.Kyagulanyi, who first attended the morning Mass at the area Catholic church, said he has God’s protection upon his life.
