Africa-Press – Uganda. Kyagwe FC picked up their first win of the season from two-time Masaza champions Singo FC at Bishop Ss Mukono on Sunday in the first league of Buganda’s Masaza Cup quarterfinals.
Both teams were in the same group of Mugazirwaza, which saw Kyagwe losing home and away to Singo, but this time round Kyagwe managed to break the Singo’s supremacy.
Mugalu Dauda wonderfully scored in the 30th minute of the first half to calm the proud funs of the visitors; the lone goal sent home fans into jubilation.
In second half of the game, Singo side tried to put up more numerous attacks but in vain, thanks to a beautiful defence from the likes of Arijole Godfrey and Mawanda, who consistently frustrated Singo’s efforts to score.
“I want to assure our Kyagwe FC fans that this season we are going to make it to the finals and possibly take the trophy,” Arijole assured the fans.
Singo County FC head coach, Simon Peter Mugerwa, admitted the loss, attributing it to the absence of four key players who are currently with the national team Uganda Cobs at Njeru Technical.
“Lossing is part of the game; we have lost 1:0 away, but thanks to my players for putting up a great resistance,” said Mugerwa.
“The absence of the three players has greatly affected our performance at Kyagwe; the national team refused to release us, but we had to honor the fixture. Charles Okello, Ryan Kizito, and Elvis Sekajugo were not at the pitch, but we are going to regroup at home.”
Kyagwe side head coach David Mutono Katono stressed that he is going to capitalize on the available three points as he travels to Mityana Sazza grounds next Sunday. Mutono further applauded Kyagwe fans for the spirited support at Bishops SS.
On Sunday, 29th, Kyagwe FC will be traveling to Mityana to play a decisive game that will qualify to the semi-finals of the 2024 Masaza Cup.
