Africa-Press – Uganda. Kyaka County has booked its place in the final of the 2025 MTN Kabode Tooro Kingdom Masaza Cup after securing a 1-1 draw against Mwenge South in the return leg of their semi-final clash, held at Katoosa Playground in Kyenjojo District on Sunday.

The result was enough to send Kyaka through with a 4-1 aggregate win, thanks to their dominant 3-0 victory in the first leg played at Humura Playground in Kyegegwa District the previous weekend.

Goals in that match came from Fred Tumusiime, Jonathan Moses Kisaku, and a brace by Julius Tumusiime, giving Kyaka a comfortable cushion heading into the away tie.

Despite a spirited start from Mwenge South, who were backed by an energetic home crowd, it was not enough to overturn the deficit.

Marvin Onyango gave the hosts hope with a well-taken goal in the 23rd minute.

However, Kyaka responded early in the second half through Dennis Kakooza, whose 50th-minute equalizer sealed their place in the final.

Speaking after the match, Kyaka forward Julius Tumusiime—who scored twice in the first leg—expressed optimism about his team’s chances in the final.

“We played a good game, created chances, and utilized them. We needed just a draw to qualify, and we got the job done. It’s our first final in four appearances, and we are confident we can win the trophy this season,” he said.

This achievement makes Kyaka the first team to reach the MTN Kabode Masaza Cup final three times since the tournament’s inception in 2022.

They were champions in their debut year after defeating Bunyangabu, runners-up in 2023 following a loss to Mwenge South, and are now back for a third shot at the title.

Kyaka will now face Fort Portal in the grand finale on Sunday, September 7, at Buhinga Stadium in Fort Portal City. Fort Portal secured their place after edging out Burahya in the other semifinal.

Both the football and netball finals will be held on the same day, with His Majesty King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru expected to attend.

Tooro Kingdom Sports Minister Michael Wandera commended the teams and confirmed the final arrangements.

“We are set for the finals on Sunday in Fort Portal. Both the football and netball finals will be played at Buhinga Stadium,” he said.

The tournament champions will walk away with Shs12 million and the prestigious trophy, courtesy of sponsor MTN.

Mwenge South will face Burahya in the third-place playoff.

As the countdown to the final begins, Kyaka will be aiming to write another chapter in Masaza Cup history, while Fort Portal looks to redeem themselves after last year’s narrow defeat in the final.
