Africa-Press – Uganda. Jovline Kaliisa Kyomukama, the Deputy National Coordinator for the Parish Development Model, has been declared the new National Resistance Movement (NRM) Chairperson for Ibanda District after a landslide victory in the party’s recent structure elections.
Kyomukama, who previously served as the Ibanda Woman Member of Parliament, triumphed over her opponent, Xavier Kyoma Akampurira,the Ibanda North member of Parliament,with a commanding 443 votes against Kyoma’s 87.
The elections were held at Integrated Primary School playground, drawing hundreds of party delegates from across the district.
Announcing the results, Ibanda District NRM registrar Gloria Tushemereirwe said, “The elections were free and fair. After counting the votes, we officially declare Jovline Kyomukama as the duly elected Ibanda District Chairperson of the NRM.” She stated.
Speaking to supporters after her victory, Kyomukama expressed gratitude and pledged to strengthen the party’s grassroots structures.
“I am humbled by the trust the people of Ibanda have placed in me. This victory is not mine alone ,it belongs to all of us who believe in building a strong and united party,” she said.
Kyomukama also confirmed that she will be contesting for the Ibanda Woman MP seat in the forthcoming general elections.
“The journey to serve Ibanda is far from over. I am ready to represent our people in Parliament with renewed energy and commitment,” she added.
Her victory is seen by political observers as a significant boost to her campaign, given her strategic role in coordinating the Parish Development Model , a government program aimed at uplifting communities through household-level development.
The NRM leadership in Ibanda has lauded the peaceful conduct of the elections and commended both candidates for their participation.
