Africa-Press – Uganda. Ibanda District Woman Member of Parliament, Jane Bainomugisha, has lost her bid for the Secretary for Finance position for Kakinga Ward in Ishongororo Town Council in the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Women’s League elections.
The contest, held on Monday, turned chaotic as tension flared between Bainomugisha and her rival, Betty Turyahabwe Kwitegyetse.
Witnesses say the confrontation erupted during the lining-up process for voting.
“There was commotion as supporters joined the line. After some verbal exchange, Bainomugisha left the queue and walked away,” one witness told during an interview.
Betty Turyahabwe Kwitegyetse was later declared the winner following the confrontation.
Kwitegyetse remarked, “The election was fair and transparent. Bainomugisha just feared to lose. That’s why she walked away.”
Critics have since questioned Bainomugisha’s participation in the local-level contest, arguing that it undermines her current position as Member of Parliament and her ongoing campaign to retain the seat in the upcoming general elections.
“She should focus on her parliamentary race. It was surprising to see her contesting at LC II level,” a local political observer noted.
The PRESS tried to reach out to Bainomugisha for a comment but she could not pick up calls despite repeated attempts
Despite the loss, Bainomugisha has announced she will continue her campaign for re-election as the Ibanda District Woman MP.
This development marks a significant moment in Ibanda’s political landscape as tensions rise ahead of the 2026 general elections.
