Africa-Press – Uganda. Ntungamo District on Thursday held its first-ever inter-religious council prayer, bringing together religious leaders, civil servants, political figures, and community members to foster unity, peace, and development.
The event, held at the district headquarters, marked a milestone in promoting interfaith collaboration in the area.
Bishop Nathan Ahimbisibwe of South Ankole led the prayers, joined by representatives from Catholic, Muslim, and Adventist communities.
He emphasized the importance of leaving divisions behind and working collectively to address poverty and advance district and national development.
“We had inter-religious prayers at Ntungamo to bless our nation, district, and people of God regardless of faith. Let the past be in the past Let us work together to eradicate poverty and build a better future,” Bishop Ahimbisibwe said.
He encouraged participants to understand their personal missions and remain steadfast in the face of challenges.
RDC Miriam Kagaiga Mugisha, who hosted the event, described the prayers as a blessing for Ntungamo, noting that the initiative aims to unite residents and introduce inter-religious council prayers in the district.
John Wickliffe Karazarwe, Ntungamo’s first district chairperson from 1993 to 2010, urged participants to approach the upcoming elections responsibly, stressing that peace begins with individual self-discipline.
“You are the only person who can give yourself peace. If you don’t, external forces may intervene,” he said.
The event highlighted the district’s commitment to interfaith collaboration and prompted leaders and community members to continue working together toward sustainable development, particularly during the heated political season.
