Africa-Press – Uganda. Real estate firm The Living Group (TLG) has commissioned a new borehole in Naguru, Kampala, as a tribute to its former director, Rajiv Ruparelia, who passed away in a car accident in May.

The borehole, constructed near TLG’s latest residential development—The Vista Naguru—is intended to provide free access to clean water for the surrounding community.

Speaking during the commissioning ceremony on Friday, TLG Managing Director Ray Sakaria said the project was inspired by the group’s desire to support a community that has been welcoming and supportive of their developments.

“We noticed many children in the area walking long distances carrying empty jerrycans in search of water,” Sakaria said. “Carrying 20 litres—equivalent to 20 kilograms—is not easy, especially for children. We thought of our late partner, Rajiv, and how he always valued helping people. That’s why we built this borehole in his memory.”

Sakaria emphasized that the borehole will remain free to use, following an agreement with local leaders to prohibit any form of charging for water.

Sheena Ruparelia, a fellow director at TLG, highlighted the importance of real estate developers giving back to the communities where they operate.

“This borehole is a small gesture to thank the people of Naguru, who have supported us throughout the development of The Vista Naguru,” she said. “Not everyone has access to clean water, and this is one way we can make a difference. We hope about 2,000 residents will benefit.”

The initiative reflects the company’s broader commitment to community-driven development and corporate social responsibility. TLG’s leadership team includes Sheena, Ray Sakaria, and Meera Ruparelia.

The borehole project stands as both a practical intervention in a water-stressed area and a heartfelt tribute to Rajiv Ruparelia’s enduring legacy in Uganda’s real estate sector.
