Africa-Press – Uganda. The National Resistance Movement (NRM) primaries in Buikwe District were conducted peacefully, despite low voter turnout in some polling stations.

The district comprises four constituencies: Lugazi Municipality, Njeru Municipality, Buikwe South, and the District Woman MP seat.

For the District Woman MP flag, the main contenders were incumbent Hon. Diana Mutasingwa and Harriet Nankabirwa. Preliminary results indicate that Hon. Mutasingwa is leading in the majority of polling stations across the district.

At Kiryowa 2 polling station, for example, Mutasingwa garnered 308 votes, while Nankabirwa managed only 2 votes. Mutasingwa expressed gratitude to the people of Buikwe for recognizing her contributions, particularly her efforts in fighting land grabbers in the district.

However, she voiced concern over alleged misconduct by Lydia Kalemera, the Deputy RDC of Njeru Municipality, accusing her of actively interfering in the electoral process by reading out the names of voters at polling stations—an action Mutasingwa believes was improper.

In Lugazi Municipality, the contest also proceeded smoothly.

Richard Senkaaba Saalongo is leading significantly against his rivals Bill Tomusange, Phetus Semakula, and Isaac Ssozi, the former Member of Parliament for Lugazi Municipality.

Meanwhile, in Buikwe South, former MP David Mutebi is currently ahead of other aspirants, including Hussein Bulobeka and Elijah Kijjambu.

As tallying continues, all eyes are on the final results that will determine who carries the NRM flag in the 2026 general elections.
