Africa-Press – Uganda. In a significant step toward sustainable development and agricultural innovation, Maha Putri Mariam Leonor Torres Mastura, Founder and President of We Care for Humanity (WCH), has launched a major bilateral collaboration with farming communities in Eastern Uganda.
The landmark event, held on December 12 in Mbale City, drew more than 800 farmers and community stakeholders, signaling a new chapter of socio-economic transformation in the region.
The initiative was spearheaded by Woniala Michael Gidongo, Chairman of Legacy Uganda Development Partners Africa Limited (LUDEPA), WCH’s strategic partner in Uganda.
The event also attracted regional and international guests, including Kenyan legislator Gideon Mulyungi and Florence Nambozo, who joined local leaders in welcoming the visiting delegation.
Queen Mariam received a grand traditional welcome marked by vibrant cultural performances from local ethnic groups, highlighting the rich heritage of the Elgon sub-region and underscoring the strong community support for the initiative.
During the ceremony, Queen Mariam formally appointed Woniala Michael Gidongo as Regional Director of We Care for Humanity East Uganda.
The appointment marked a key milestone in strengthening WCH’s operational presence in the region. Gidongo described the visit as historic, noting that the occasion officially launched the We Care for Humanity Services Headquarters for the East Africa–Uganda Chapter.
He expressed gratitude on behalf of the Farmers Fraternity Corporation, describing the occasion as a defining moment for the local community.
He emphasized that the Queen’s visit and vision had created an enabling environment for long-term development not only in Uganda, but across East Africa and the wider African continent.
The collaboration centers on a shared humanitarian and development agenda, with a strong focus on empowering vulnerable communities, including people with disabilities, orphanages, and street children through WCH’s Global Santa program.
Education also remains a core pillar, building on WCH’s long-standing commitment to providing higher education scholarships in Uganda through its Education for Humanity Program.
In addition, discussions were held on multi-sector economic investments aimed at increasing household incomes and contributing to national economic growth.
Addressing the gathering, Queen Mariam said the initiative is designed to drive socio-economic transformation at both local and international levels.
She stressed that the foundation of the investment strategy lies in strengthening agricultural economic investment and business, with a focus on attracting potential funders to support the sector.
Queen Mariam also reaffirmed her long-term commitment to Uganda, highlighting ongoing collaboration with the Kings Forum to advance shared humanitarian goals.
She noted that partnerships rooted in culture, agriculture, and human development are essential to building resilient communities and sustainable futures across the region.
