Masaka Gears up to Host Museveni in Major NRM Campaign Rally

Africa-Press – Uganda. Masaka District is set to host President Museveni as the National Resistance Movement (NRM) finalises preparations for a major campaign rally scheduled for today, Monday , at Masaka Liberation Square.

President Museveni, who is also the NRM party chairman, is expected to address thousands of supporters from Masaka District, and Masaka City as part of his countrywide tour to mobilise support for the ruling party ahead of the upcoming elections.

After the Masaka rally, the President will later proceed to Bukomansimbi District to conclude the day’s activities.

Speaking during a mobilisation meeting held in Kamuzinda village, Kyannamukaaka Sub-county, Oscar Mutebi, a mobiliser in the Office of the President, expressed confidence that Masaka would deliver strong support for Museveni.

“This time, President Museveni is going to win Masaka with over 85 percent support because of the programmes he has put in place to uplift household incomes, including PDM, Emyooga and the industrial hubs,” Mutebi said.

Mutebi also commended the President for allocating funds that facilitated the construction of Masaka District headquarters, noting that the development has eased access to services for residents who previously had to travel to Masaka City for most administrative functions.

Meanwhile, Joanita Nalule, the NRM female parliamentary aspirant for Masaka District, urged voters to exercise wisdom as the elections approach.

“People should vote carefully because the opposition thrives on frustrating development,” Nalule said.

She encouraged residents to support President Museveni and other NRM candidates in order to sustain and expand access to government development programmes.

“When you support NRM leaders, you position your area to benefit more from government initiatives,” she added.

John Kakande, an aspirant for Masaka District Chairperson, said party leaders intend to use the President’s visit to present key development demands.

“We are requesting for a district hospital and more support to improve coffee production, which is the backbone of our local economy,” Kakande said.

Residents, on their part, called on the President to address persistent challenges facing the district, including shortages of clean water, limited electricity coverage and the lack of industries, which they say has worsened unemployment, particularly among the youth.

The Masaka rally is expected to attract thousands of supporters as the NRM intensifies its campaign activities across the Greater Masaka region.
