Africa-Press – Uganda. The Katikkiro of Buganda, Charles Peter Mayiga, has reaffirmed Bulange as a place open to all Ugandans, calling for unity, responsible leadership and a strong sense of national identity during a meeting with National Unity Platform (NUP) president Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu.
Speaking at Bulange, the seat of the Buganda Kingdom administration, Mayiga said cultural institutions play a unifying role and should be spaces where all Ugandans feel welcome, regardless of political affiliation.
“Buganda is the foundation of Buganda, and everyone is welcome to Bulange. It is also good for a leader to know and understand where you come from, so that you can understand where you are going,” Mayiga said.
The Katikkiro commended Kyagulanyi for consistently carrying and displaying the national flag, describing the gesture as a symbol of unity and shared responsibility among leaders and citizens.
“I thank you, Robert Kyagulanyi, for raising and moving with the National Flag. That shows and spreads love. Leadership is like that, because we face the same challenges,” Mayiga added.
Reflecting on Kyagulanyi’s previous visit to Bulange, Mayiga recalled that the NUP leader last met the Buganda Kingdom leadership in 2020 during the election period. He reiterated the kingdom’s long-standing position on advocating for Buganda’s interests, commonly referred to as Ebyaffe.
“You last came here in 2020, still around election time. I told you then that we want a leader who stands with the five demands of Buganda—Ebyaffe,” Mayiga said.
The meeting was part of Kyagulanyi’s engagements with cultural and community leaders ahead of his political activities in Rubaga Division.
The interaction underscored calls for national unity, respect for cultural institutions and leadership that prioritises dialogue and addresses the shared challenges facing Ugandans.
