Africa-Press – Uganda. Minister for the Presidency Milly Babirye Babalanda has urged officers under Operation Wealth Creation (OWC) to spearhead Uganda’s economic transformation in line with the Government’s ambitious Tenfold Growth Strategy.
Speaking on Friday during the closing ceremony of a five-day OWC retreat held in Kyankwanzi, Babalanda emphasized that the Government is targeting a dramatic increase in Uganda’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) — from the current shs187 trillion (USD 50 billion) to over shs1,870 trillion (USD 500 billion) by the year 2040, under the forthcoming Fourth National Development Plan (NDP IV).
“We are committed to building a peaceful, secure, and democratic Uganda, where every citizen and investor can thrive confidently,” Babalanda said, urging OWC officers to take a frontline role in enhancing household incomes, boosting job creation, and integrating more citizens into the national economy.
The retreat brought together OWC coordinators, executive assistants, directors, and other staff to develop fresh strategies aimed at aligning the organization’s work with the government’s long-term economic goals.
Participants discussed ways to accelerate wealth creation programs, improve inter-agency collaboration, and tackle implementation bottlenecks that have slowed progress in past years.
Babalanda highlighted the critical importance of strategic planning and teamwork, describing OWC as a “catalyst for agricultural modernization, industrialization, and inclusive development.”
She emphasized that peace, security, and good governance remain the foundation for sustainable development, and that every OWC officer must reflect these values in service delivery.
“As OWC officers, you are the face of the Government’s economic agenda in communities. You must lead with integrity and purpose to ensure that no Ugandan is left behind,” she added.
The Kyankwanzi retreat was aimed at realigning OWC operations with Uganda’s Vision 2040, and the emerging priorities under NDP IV, which will replace the current National Development Plan III in the coming months.
The Tenfold Growth Strategy seeks to transform Uganda into a modern, middle-income economy through a deliberate focus on agriculture, agro-industrialization, technology adoption, and value addition.
As the country continues to recover from global economic shocks, the Government sees the role of OWC as even more vital in bridging the rural-urban economic divide and expanding economic opportunities at the grassroots level.
