Africa-Press – Uganda. Karamoja Affairs State Minister and Woman Member of Parliament for Sironko District, Florence Nambozo, has suffered a resounding defeat in the race for the NRM District Chairperson seat, losing to the incumbent, Hajji Sulaiman Lumolo Mafabi, in a vote held at Mutufu Primary School on Tuesday under the heavy deployment.
The venue is fenced to prevent intruders. The process began by thorough screening to ensure that only eligible delegates access the venue. Eligible deligates were given tags for easy identification.
In a striking outcome, Nambozo secured just 11 votes compared to Lumolo’s 881, reaffirming the incumbent’s firm grip on the district’s NRM leadership.
The minister quietly arrived at the polling venue but left shortly after, reportedly unsettled by the massive support visibly shown for her opponent.
Despite earlier announcing her bid to challenge Lumolo, Nambozo was noticeably absent when candidates were called to address the electorate.
With the election conducted by lining up behind candidates, Nambozo did not appear in person to stand for her bid. Instead, her agent stood in her place as supporters queued up behind the candidates.
Lumolo, a veteran party leader and long-serving district chairperson, was overwhelmingly re-elected in what many described as a vote of confidence in his leadership.
“I am grateful to the people of Sironko for trusting me again. We must now focus on uniting the party and delivering on our mandate,” Lumolo said after his victory.
However Nambozo has protested the outcome citing unlevelled ground and manipulation by a system that remained under the control of the incumbet.
“As a candidate I demanded to be availed a register but the administrative secretary told me that there was no law that mandates him to avail the register to a candidate, my supporters were denied access to the polling station” Nambozo said” Nambozo said.
The election was part of the ongoing NRM internal structure polls being conducted nationwide to renew leadership at various levels ahead of the 2026 general elections.
Nambozo’s defeat comes just days after she pulled out of the Mutufu Sub-county NRM Women’s League re-election, citing irregularities and alleged voter intimidation. She had instead redirected her focus to the district chairperson seat, promising to “restore integrity and unity in the party.”
