Mpuuga'S DF yet to Confirm Presidential Candidate for 2026 Elections

Africa-Press – Uganda. The Democratic Front (DF) has not yet confirmed its presidential flag bearer for the 2026 elections, even as most political parties have already submitted their nomination forms to the Electoral Commission.

Henry Lubowa, DF’s Electoral Commission chairperson, said two party members picked forms to contest the presidential slot but have yet to return them.

“Although time appears to be running out, the party remains optimistic that a suitable candidate will be identified by the end of this month,” he noted.

Lubowa explained that any aspirant who returns their forms will undergo vetting before being presented for approval at the party’s delegates’ conference.

Out of 2,000 members who initially picked forms for various positions, 630 have so far returned them.

Of these, 79 are contesting parliamentary seats, representing 31 percent of the total.

The chairperson further revealed that 18 members have already been confirmed to participate in the party primaries, scheduled from August 29 to 31.

Among those who submitted forms on Sunday are Jane Nankinga, aspiring to contest as Kampala Central MP, and Emmanuel Kisitu, seeking the Kyengera Town Council mayoral seat, among others.
