Africa-Press – Uganda. MTN Uganda has announced the appointment of Sylvia Elsheikh as its new Chief Marketing Officer (CMO), effective July 14, 2025.
She takes over from Somdev Sen, who is transitioning into new responsibilities within the MTN Group.
The appointment marks Elsheikh’s return to the MTN fold, bringing with her more than 18 years of experience in the telecommunications and commercial sectors.
Her career has spanned leadership roles in Sudan and Zambia, with a strong track record in marketing strategy, customer acquisition, product innovation, and digital transformation.
Before joining MTN Uganda, Elsheikh served as CMO at Airtel Zambia from 2022 to 2025, where she led the company to consolidate its market leadership, achieving a value share exceeding 60%.
She also oversaw the rollout of Zambia’s largest 5G and LTE TDD networks and successfully launched VoLTE services, reinforcing Airtel’s status as a technology front-runner.
She previously held senior roles at MTN Sudan, including CMO (2016–2022), Senior Manager for Segment Pricing & Acquisition (2015–2016), and Value-Added Services Manager (2011–2014). Earlier in her career, she worked in technical and planning roles at Sudani Telecom and Canar Telecom.
“I am thrilled to return to the MTN family and excited to join MTN Uganda, a brand that stands tall for innovation, inclusion, and impact,” Elsheikh said.
“I look forward to working with the talented team to continue delivering bold, relevant, and customer-focused marketing strategies that resonate with Uganda’s dynamic market.”
MTN Uganda CEO Sylvia Mulinge welcomed the appointment, citing Elsheikh’s blend of regional expertise and customer-centric focus.
“Sylvia’s extensive regional experience, proven leadership, and passion for customer-focused marketing make her a valuable addition to our executive team,” Mulinge said.
“We are confident she will play a key role in sustaining our market leadership and shaping the next phase of our growth.”
Elsheikh holds a Master of Science in Business Administration with a specialization in Marketing Management and a Bachelor of Science in Electrical and Electronics Engineering—an academic combination that complements her commercial and technical insight.
Her appointment comes at a time when MTN Uganda is accelerating its digital growth and expanding its footprint across financial technology, data services, and customer experience innovation.
The company recently reported 22.8 million subscribers, 13.6 million mobile money users, and 10.2 million active data customers as of March 31, 2025.
Elsheikh is expected to play a pivotal role in executing MTN Uganda’s ambition to deepen customer engagement, promote digital adoption, and drive inclusive, tech-enabled growth in Uganda.
