MTN Uganda partners with Pearlwood to promote Ugandan movies

Africa-PressUganda. Great Lakes Institute for Strategic Studies (GLISS), YOTV Channels, MTN Uganda in collaboration with the Pearlwood Association are pleased to announce the Pearlwood Awards 2020 and the lunch of the FOR HER 2021 Pearlwood Awards Edition.

The Awards and the launch took place on December 18, 2020 at 1600hrs at the National Theatre in Kampala.

Pearlwood Awards is a collaboration between the Pearlwood Association of Uganda, the Great Lakes Institute for Strategic Studies (GLISS), YOTV Channels and MTN Uganda to promote Uganda’s movie industry.

The collaborating institutions are driven by a shared commitment to mobilize and provide Ugandan movie artists with the resources and platforms needed to develop film products that are Ugandan in character and competitive in the global film industry.

“Through this collaboration, we will harness GLISS’s intellectual ingenuity and convening power, YOTV’s digital prowess and MTN Uganda’s dominance of the telecommunications market to build Pearlwood Awards into a globally recognizable brand with a Ugandan character,” says Godber Tumushabe, Associate Director at the Great Lakes Institute for Strategic Studies.

According to Mavis Musungu, MTN Uganda’s Digital Go-To-Market Specialist, “The most important thing about any good content is the reach. Using MTN’s robust digital presence and wide reach, we are committed to ensuring that this good pearlwood entertainment content reaches every household not only in Uganda but across the world, just like the other movie industries.”

At the same function, the partners will lunch FOR HER 2021 as the theme for the 2021 Edition of Pearlwood Awards.

FOR HER 2021 is dedicated to content that features and celebrates Ugandan women and the Ugandan girl child. The Pearlwood Awards 2021 Edition will be held in November 2021.

According to Mzee Bwanika, Director of Pearlwood Association, “The partnership between the Association and the three collaborating institutions promises a new future for Uganda’s film industry.”
