Africa-Press – Uganda. The Bishop of Mukono Diocese, Rt Rev Enos Kitto Kagodo, has urged newly confirmed Christians to remain steadfast in their faith and place full trust in Christ, describing Him as the ultimate fulfiller of God’s promises and the unchanging foundation of Christian hope.
The appeal came during a confirmation service held at St. Stephen’s Church of Uganda, Njeru Parish in Nakibizzi Archdeaconry, Njeru–Buikwe, where more than 50 believers were confirmed into the Anglican faith.
The service also included a wave of new public professions of faith, with over 30 additional individuals declaring their commitment to Christ.
Preaching under the theme “Hope in Christ the Promise Keeper,” Bishop Kagodo underscored the reliability of God’s word and the unchanging nature of His character.
He also anchored his message in this year’s diocesan theme, “Christ is our peace and has made us one” (Ephesians 2:14).
Drawing from Numbers 23:16–26, he referenced the biblical account of Balaam and King Balak, who sought to curse Israel. Despite pressure, sacrifices, and repeated attempts to change locations, Balaam was only able to pronounce blessings as instructed by God.
“God is not a man, that He should lie. If He has blessed, no one can reverse it. No spell or curse can work against God’s people,” he said.
He emphasised that divine blessing cannot be overturned by human or spiritual opposition, insisting that God’s word remains final and unchanging.
“Our God does not change, deceive, or waver like mortals. He alone turns evil into blessing and fights our battles,” he added.
Bishop Kagodo encouraged believers to reject doubt and fully align themselves with God’s will, stressing that faith is central to experiencing the fulfilment of God’s promises.
“Some people harbour doubts, but I appeal to all of you today to believe in accordance with God’s counsel so He may fulfil His promises to you,” he said, adding that those who receive Christ as Saviour enter a life sealed by the Holy Spirit.
The Parish Priest of Njeru, Rev. Henry Kamya Katumba Ssalongo, highlighted what he described as steady spiritual and structural growth in the parish, attributing it to God’s grace and the commitment of congregants.
He noted that the ongoing construction of a new parish church headquarters remains a major milestone.
“The Gospel has been faithfully proclaimed and has yielded abundant fruit,” Rev. Katumba said, adding that the parish has also recently elected new church leaders under what he described as the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
He further pledged that the new leadership would undergo proper grounding through structured training in sound doctrine and church practice.
Nakibizzi Archdeacon, Ven Canon Robert Kiwanuka Mulinde, presented newly elected leaders from across the archdeaconry to the Bishop and reported encouraging progress in expanding ministry, particularly through efforts to establish new churches in different communities.
Bishop Kagodo commended both outgoing and incoming leaders, praising the former for their dedicated service and urging the latter to build on the foundation already laid.
He also expressed gratitude to Christians in Njeru for supporting the construction of the new Mukono Diocesan Cathedral, noting that the project would strengthen the Diocese’s identity and glorify God.
In addition, he thanked the congregation for their support of clergy and for their participation in marking his 30 years of marriage and three years of episcopal leadership as the third Bishop of Mukono Diocese.
After the sermon, more than 30 individuals publicly professed their faith in Christ. They were presented by Rev Babra Nakityo Kkoosi, after which the Bishop prayed for them and pronounced a blessing.
During the confirmation and commissioning, Bishop Kagodo urged the candidates to remain committed to the Church, warning against drifting away and encouraging them to continue serving God and spreading the Gospel.
The Bishop also reminded the congregation of the importance of the Third Commandment.
The Bishop’s wife, Mrs. Catherine Kitto Kagodo, encouraged the newly confirmed Christians to remain faithful to their vows and the teachings they had received, urging them to grow into strong believers who positively influence society and the nation.
She also called on the wider congregation to continue confessing God as Lord and to remain confident in His active presence and work in their lives.
