SEBEI – Alliance for National Transformation presidential candidate Maj. Gen. (Rtd) Mugisha Muntu on Friday (December 11, 2020) promised to lift the people of Sebei region from poverty, fix roads, provide clean drinking water, and lift the standards of education. Muntu noted that the standards of education in Universal Primary Education were too low. He also promised to establish a national insurance health scheme and agricultural banks to aid farmers in the region known for its agricultural prowess. Muntu also promised to nurture sports talent in the region. “We are trying to establish the national insurance health scheme so that whoever gets sick is paid for. We intend to establish an agricultural bank and Sebei, which is an agricultural region, will have their farmers access cheap credit and middle to long term repayment period and revive and re-establish cooperative banks.” Muntu noted that people in Sebei were hardworking, had fertile soils, lots of water and there was no way such people should be poor. Addressing people at Suam border and Buke, Muntu noted that he had never understood why Karamoja, Bundibugyo and Sebei, which were some of the most underdeveloped areas, are still fully supported the National Resistance Movement. “We can run this country better than Gen. Museveni, where he has reached, he cannot take this country forward. I was the commander of the National Resistance Army from 1989 to 1998 before it became the Uganda People’s Defence Forces. I was 30 years of age, but I did not get drunk because of money or power. I remained steady at that young age,” he said. Muntu noted that he is now 62 years and is more steady and ready to serve the country.”We have a party made up of men and women who are trusted and incorruptible. We are positioned to manage the problems of the people. So, we ask the people of Sebei to trust us. We will manage the army, intelligence and the Police and ensure they are disciplined and nonpartisan,” Muntu reassured the locals. Muntu noted that there were few people within the Movement who had stood firm and opposed President Museveni. He commended the Bukwo Woman Member of Parliament, Evelyn Chemutai, for voting against the age limit amendment.”What kind of leaders do you want? If you want those who cannot go before Museveni and tell him: “Sir, there you are wrong.” How will your area develop?” Muntu asked. He asked the locals to assist the ANT to remove Museveni and the NRM from power and hand it to people who would drive the country’s agenda forward, noting that he had been tried and tested.”If you want anybody to turn this country and put it on the right track, you are looking at him right in front of you,” Muntu said. He noted that Kenya, which borders the Sebei region has had three peaceful presidential changes.”President Daniel Moi handed over to Mwai Kibaki. Kibaki handed over to Uhuru Kenyatta and Kenyatta will hand over to another president. In Tanzania, they even have more experiences from Nyerere to Mwinyi, then to Mkapa, Mkapa handed over to Kikwete. Kikwete handed over to Magufuli who will also in turn hand over to another president,” Muntu said. He noted that both countries were developing at a first rate.
