Africa-Press – Uganda. The Presidential Candidate of the Alliance for National Transformation (ANT), Gen. Gregory Mugisha Muntu, has reiterated his party’s commitment to restoring accountability, improving healthcare, and strengthening regional diplomacy as key pillars of his 2026 campaign agenda.
Speaking during NBS Morning Breeze on Tuesday, Muntu emphasised that the solution to Uganda’s challenges lies in the values and vision championed by the ANT.
“We believe the solution to the mess in this country lies within our (ANT) message,” Muntu said, underscoring the party’s emphasis on integrity, leadership discipline, and institutional reform.
Muntu expressed deep concern over the government’s continued neglect of the healthcare sector, calling it “one of the most unfortunate failures” of the current administration.
“Healthcare or medical care has never been a focal area for this government. In words, yes — they speak a lot of rhetoric in regard to healthcare support,” he said.
The two time presidential candidate highlighted rampant corruption as a key factor undermining service delivery, revealing that an estimated Shs 7.6 trillion (USD 2 billion) is stolen annually.
“If that money were properly managed, it could be directed to critical areas like healthcare. That’s what we in the ANT intend to do in addition to establishing a National Health Insurance Scheme to ensure equitable access to medical services,” Muntu said.
Reflecting on his recent campaign tours across the country, Muntu cited poor road infrastructure remains a major obstacle, especially in rural districts.
“The challenges are mainly the bad roads in a number of districts because we normally go to the rural areas,” he said.
Despite these difficulties, he expressed optimism about the growing resonance of ANT’s message among Ugandans in all regions.
Muntu also emphasised the importance of regional diplomacy, noting that Uganda’s domestic stability is deeply connected to peace in neighbouring countries.
“Anybody who is going to run this government will need to ably engage in regional diplomacy. The heavy burden we shoulder in terms of refugee inflows is a result of instability in some of the countries around us,” he said.
Muntu further argued that ANT continues to collaborate with other opposition forces in various regions to promote unity and shared values.
“In the regions I have been so far — like in the Western and Buganda — wherever I have found PFF candidates, I have campaigned for them. Even in areas where I have found NUP candidates, I have supported them, even without an MOU,” he said.
He also defended the importance of fundraising for political parties, dismissing the notion that it equates to begging.
“To think that fundraising is begging is really a sign that people are not aware of the critical nature of party funding,” he said.
Muntu reaffirmed ANT’s belief that Uganda’s transformation begins with disciplined leadership and a shared sense of purpose.
“We believe the solution to the mess in this country lies within our (ANT) message,” he said, calling on citizens to join hands in building a transparent, accountable, and inclusive government.
