Africa-Press – Uganda. Alliance for National Transformation (ANT) presidential candidate Maj. Gen. Mugisha Muntu has rallied voters in Nebbi to use the forthcoming elections to give Uganda a chance to experience the peaceful transfer of power.
Muntu while addressing a handful of supporters at Nebbi Market Square on Thursday said it’s very disheartening that Uganda has never experienced a peaceful transfer of power.
Muntu explained that he went to the bush to fight bad governance and restore the rule of law, but it was so unfortunate that the same things that took them to the bush are being repeated by the ruling government.
According to Muntu, the onus is on Ugandans to use the power of the ballot to push President Yoweri Museveni out, adding that there is no date other than January 14, 2021, to have a peaceful transfer of power.
“Turn up in large numbers on January 14 to cast your votes. We need to have a peaceful transfer of power for once in the country,” he said.
Muntu also revealed unresolved differences that forced him to walk out of the Forum for Democratic Change, a party he led for 10 years.
Muntu who was also in the company of Arua Municipality MP Kassiano Wadri, spent only 30 minutes at the rally.
He said he would instead use the media outlets in the area to share his manifesto with the electorate in the Greater Nebbi.
“We don’t have much time, we have to cover three districts in a day and that makes it hard. We shall use the media within to pass onto you our manifesto,” he said.
Muntu’s attempt to hold his rally at Nebbi Primary School playground was blocked by the Police.
Francis Olum a resident of Nebbi Town said he was delighted with Muntu “soberness” when highlighting issues.
“Even if we are three I shall vote him. I like his soberness. He is good and I see him holding the solutions to Uganda’s problems,” he said.
James Akena another resident said he was happy that Muntu was promoting the peaceful transfer of power.
“I didn’t know he was coming but his rally was worth attending,” Akena said.
