Africa-Press – Uganda. State Minister of Finance Henry Musasizi has called for calm and unity among National Resistance Movement (NRM) supporters following the party’s contentious LC1 elections, which were marked by chaos, allegations of irregularities, and heated contests across the country.
Describing the tensions as part of Uganda’s political rhythm, Musasizi urged party faithful not to lose sight of the larger objective — securing victory for the NRM and President Museveni in the 2026 general elections.
“Whatever happened during the elections is simply part of the normal political electioneering,” Musasizi said.
“Let’s keep our eyes on the bigger goal: delivering even more votes for the NRM and President Museveni than we did in the last election.”
While reports of bribery, vote rigging, and confrontations have surfaced in several districts, Musasizi encouraged those who lost in the internal polls to set aside grievances and work with the winners for the development of their communities.
He also took the opportunity to announce his bid for the NRM district chairmanship in Rubanda, a position he said would enable him to serve all residents without bias.
“I am once again standing for the position of NRM Chairperson for Rubanda District, and by the grace of God, I believe victory is within reach,” he declared.
“Those who have been elected will work with me, and together, we will serve all citizens equally, without discrimination.”
Musasizi’s remarks come at a critical moment for the ruling party, which is preparing for its internal primaries in August 2025 ahead of national parliamentary and presidential elections scheduled for January 2026.
With factional tensions simmering in the aftermath of the LC1 polls, his message of reconciliation and discipline is being seen as an effort to stabilise the party’s grassroots base and rally support ahead of the larger electoral contests to come.
