Africa-Press – Uganda. President Museveni has urged cultural leaders across Uganda to take a proactive role in guiding their communities toward wealth creation and unity, stressing that sustainable prosperity can only be achieved when socio-economic transformation complements development.
The President’s message was delivered by Speaker of Parliament Anita Annet Among during the third coronation anniversary of His Royal Highness Paul Sande Etomeileng Emolot III, the Emorimor, held at Emokori Boma Grounds in Bukedea District.
Museveni congratulated the Emorimor and the Iteso community for the progress achieved during his three-year reign and commended the Kingdom for embracing the National Resistance Movement’s (NRM) vision of wealth creation and socio-economic transformation.
“Three years ago, you were entrusted with the mantle of presiding over the cultural affairs of your people. Today, we celebrate the achievements registered under your reign,” he said.
He emphasized the importance of cultural leadership in preserving identity, languages, customs, and traditions, and lauded the Iteso leadership for mobilizing communities to engage in productive enterprises that improve household income.
The President also highlighted the NRM government’s achievements in maintaining peace and stability, promoting unity, expanding education and healthcare, and investing in infrastructure such as roads and electricity.
However, he reminded leaders that development must result in tangible household wealth.
“Development alone is not enough. It must be translated into jobs and wealth for families to be meaningful,” he said.
Museveni further called on political and cultural leaders to foster unity and tolerance, cautioning against divisive identity-based politics.
“The NRM’s philosophy is built on interests, not identity. Interests such as the need for schools, hospitals, roads, and electricity are shared by all people. When leaders emphasize identity over interests, they divide society and slow progress,” he warned.
In her remarks, Speaker Among commended the NRM government for restoring cultural institutions that had been abolished in the past, noting that they continue to play a crucial role in promoting unity, preserving heritage, and driving community development.
