Africa-Press – Uganda. President Museveni has praised the people of Rwakitura and party members nationwide for turning up to verify the National Resistance Movement (NRM) register, describing the exercise as a critical step toward strengthening the party’s structures.
Posting on his official X account, Museveni said that upon arriving at his polling station in Rwakitura , the local registrar presented a list of 351 registered members.
However, an audit revealed that 61 individuals had either died or relocated, leaving 290 active members.
“Of course, we acknowledge that some people are not on the list, such as my grandchildren—Muhoozi’s children—who are over 18 and may wish to join the party. This will be addressed later,” Museveni noted, emphasizing that the day’s main objective was to confirm the existing register.
The president highlighted the potential national implications of such participation. “If we were to have 290 people in 72,000 villages, we would potentially have 20.8 million members,” he observed.
Museveni urged the NRM to capitalize on this momentum to expand and solidify its grassroots base. “If we do a good job, the party can perpetuate and multiply itself,” he concluded.
The NRM is currently undertaking a nationwide exercise to update and verify its membership register ahead of internal party elections and future national polls.
