Africa-Press – Uganda. President Museveni has on Saturday arrived in the United Republic of Tanzania on a one-day official working visit aimed at further strengthening diplomatic, economic and regional cooperation between the two neighbouring countries.

According to a statement issued by the Tanzanian Directorate of Presidential Communications , Museveni is visiting Tanzania at the invitation of his host, President Samia Suluhu Hassan.

The visit underscores the long-standing and steadily expanding relations between Uganda and Tanzania, anchored in shared history, regional integration and mutual economic interests.

During the visit, the two heads of state are scheduled to hold bilateral talks focusing on enhancing cooperation across key sectors of mutual interest.

Discussions will include a review of progress made in existing areas of collaboration and the exploration of new opportunities to deepen ties, particularly in economic development, energy, trade and regional stability.

“I have arrived in the United Republic of Tanzania on a working visit at the invitation of H.E. Samia Suluhu Hassan. We shall hold bilateral talks aimed at strengthening cooperation and deepening the long-standing relations between our two countries,” Museveni wrote on his X (formerly Twitter) account.

A key item expected to be on the agenda is cooperation in the energy sector, with special emphasis on the East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP) Project.

The flagship regional infrastructure initiative will link Uganda’s oil fields to the port of Tanga in Tanzania and is expected to generate significant economic benefits for both countries through job creation, increased foreign investment, infrastructure development and enhanced regional energy security.

The two Presidents are also expected to jointly brief the media at the conclusion of their talks, outlining the outcomes of the discussions and the way forward for bilateral and regional cooperation.

Uganda and Tanzania are founding members of the East African Community (EAC) and have consistently worked together to promote regional trade, infrastructure development and political stability.

Through the EAC framework, the two countries have aligned policies on customs, movement of people and goods, and cross-border investment, strengthening economic integration between their markets.

Tanzania continues to play a strategic role as a key transit corridor for Uganda’s imports and exports, particularly through the port of Dar es Salaam, as well as through improving road and rail networks that support regional trade.

Bilateral trade between the two countries has grown steadily in recent years, supported by business forums, private sector engagement and government-led initiatives aimed at reducing trade barriers.

Beyond economic cooperation, Uganda and Tanzania maintain close political and diplomatic relations, characterised by regular high-level visits and consultations. The two countries have also collaborated within regional and continental platforms to address peace and security challenges in the Great Lakes Region and across Africa

Strong social and cultural ties further underpin the relationship, with cross-border trade, migration, education and cultural exchanges reinforcing people-to-people relations between the two nations.
