Africa-Press – Uganda. President Museveni is today expected to begin the final phase of his countrywide Presidential Zonal Tours under the Parish Development Model (PDM), with Kampala District as the last stop.
The Kampala leg of the PDM tour, set for Monday 14th July 2025, marks the climax of a nationwide exercise that has seen the President traverse various zones to assess the impact and implementation of the PDM – a flagship government initiative aimed at eradicating household poverty and boosting the local economy through the parish-level economic model.
This is according to his message to Ugandans, on his X platform. “Fellow Ugandans, especially the Bazzukulu, today I will begin my PDM assessment tour of Kampala which is the last leg of the PDM tour,” he noted.
During his visit, President Museveni is also officially commission the newly constructed expected to officially commission the Busega New Market, a key infrastructure project aimed at decongesting city markets and enhancing trade opportunities for urban vendors under the PDM strategy.
The Kampala tour is expected to feature interactions with PDM beneficiaries, inspection of model projects, and engagements with leaders on how the urban poor can effectively tap into PDM funding for improved livelihoods.
Thousands of Kampala residents, including women groups, youth enterprises, and micro traders, are expected to attend the event to showcase their progress and challenges under the program.
The PDM, launched in 2022, seeks to transition 39% of Uganda’s households from a subsistence economy into the money economy, by providing resources and training at the parish level.
