Africa-Press – Uganda. Incumbent Buwekula South MP William Ndori Museveni has been defeated by political newcomer Dedan Mubangizi in the just-concluded National Resistance Movement (NRM) party primaries in Mubende District.
The hotly contested race featured three candidates: Museveni, Fred Tumwesigye, and Mubangizi, who emerged the clear winner.
According to Amos Natuliinda, the NRM elections officer for Mubende District, the final tally was as follows:
Dedan Mubangizi – 8,013 votes (45.9%)
Fred Tumwesigye – 6,359 votes (36.4%)
William Ndori Museveni – 3,103 votes (17.8%)
“I therefore declare Dedan Mubangizi, who has polled the highest number of votes,” Natuliinda announced to cheers from supporters.
Speaking after his victory, Mubangizi expressed gratitude to the electorate and pledged to push for improved services in Buwekula South.
“I want to congratulate myself and the people of Buwekula South for standing with me. It is time for them to receive better services,” he said.
“I also call upon them to join me so we can work together to develop our area.”
Museveni’s loss is part of a wider trend in Mubende’s evolving political landscape, especially in newly created constituencies where voters are increasingly rejecting incumbents after a single term in office.
Similar outcomes have been observed in:
Kassambya Constituency, where Patrick Muliindwa served only one term
Mubende Municipality, where Anthony Ssemuli was also ousted after one term
Buwekula County, where Rtd. Maj. Joseph Kakooza met the same fate
Mubangizi’s win underscores the electorate’s desire for fresh leadership and may signal further changes in the region’s political order ahead of the 2026 general elections.
