Africa-Press – Uganda. President Museveni has pledged fresh support for religious and educational initiatives in Kamwenge District, reinforcing his government’s continued backing for local development and spiritual institutions.

During a visit to assess the performance of the Parish Development Model (PDM) on Thursday, the President promised to finance the construction of St Stevens Cathedral in East Rwenzori Diocese, donate a double cabin pickup to Kamwenge Catholic Parish, and procure a school bus for Kyabenda School.

“I will support the construction of St. Stevens Cathedral and ensure the parish priest gets a double cabin pickup to aid his work. We shall also procure a school bus for Kyabenda School,” Museveni said, describing the pledges as part of broader efforts to build a morally upright and educated society.

He also reaffirmed his earlier donation of Shs 300 million for roofing Kamwenge Catholic Church, noting that government support to the Church was key to fostering national unity and ethical values.

The Bishop of East Rwenzori Diocese, Rt. Rev. George K. Turyasingura, thanked the President for his generosity, calling it “a clear demonstration of his love for peace, unity, and development.”

Rev Fr James Isabakaki of Kamwenge Catholic Parish praised the President for fulfilling his pledges, saying, “His support is helping us grow both spiritually and socially.”

Local leaders also commended Museveni’s visit, which they said was instrumental in promoting the goals of PDM and other national development programmes.

Agriculture Minister and Kibale East MP, Frank Tumwebaze, credited the President for major infrastructure upgrades, including the Kamwenge–Fort Portal road and the newly launched Kahunge–Kihura road.

“These are game changers. They are boosting trade and household incomes,” he said.

Cuthbert Abigaba Mirembe, MP for Kibale County, welcomed the President’s efforts to educate the public on land fragmentation and promote sustainable farming practices.

Museveni’s visit was marked by expressions of gratitude from religious and political leaders alike, who cited visible progress in roads, education, and faith-based infrastructure as signs of the PDM’s growing impact on rural livelihoods.
