Africa-Press – Uganda. President Museveni has castigated the people of Butambala for voting opposition yet the NRM government has done a lot for them.
Speaking during a rally at Nkokoma Primary School in Bulo on Monday, Museveni said the voters in Butambala risk bringing curses upon themselves for failure to appreciate what NRM has done for them.
“You will bring a curse to yourselves. NRM giving you all this(development) and you voted opposition! I pity you. I have been here for long. If you are not truthful, God can’t be happy with you. The opposition are like night dancers. A night dancer wants to kill the good thing. Government has brought tarmac to Butambala, electricity and schools, many of which were not here and you despise it and go to opposition! God doesn’t get happy with you,” Museveni said.
He said when NRM came to power 40 years ago, tarmac only ended in Mpigi, noting that it has been extended to Kibibi- Gombe- Kayenje- Mpenja- Kanoni—Kabulasoke to Masaka through Butambala.
Museveni also mentioned electricity, which he said is now at all the seven sub counties which make up Butambala, noting that whereas it hasn’t reached all homes, being at the sub county headquarters means it is soon being extended to villages.
The NRM presidential candidate said he was happy that of the 141 villages in Butambala, 123, representing 87.2% have access to clean water while in terms of education, the district has 68 government primary schools and 12 government secondary schools.
In the health sector, out of the seven sub counties, one has a district hospital, and six have health centre IIIs with all sub counties having at least one health facility.
“You the people of Butambala are witnesses of the development brought by NRM. What we say as NRM are not mere promises but also what we have done for Ugandans,” he said.
He also promised to tarmac the Mitala Maria- Bulo- Kanoni road.
In the 2021 elections, opposition National Unity Platform trounced Museveni’s NRM.
While Museveni got 25.6% of the vote, NUP got 73.3%.
The two MPs in the district including Muwanga Kivumbi( Butambala Coutny) and Aisha Kabanda( Woman MP) are all from the opposition National Unity Platform.
Wealth Creation
Nevertheless, Museveni told the gathering that despite the development achieved under the NRM, what is key is wealth creation.
He said whereas development is for everyone, wealth is for individual households.
“As NRM we understood this for long. You are witnesses because I bypassed you and went to Kisozi which didn’t have tarmac, electricity or schools. You think I was stupid to go there without amenities! I was wise. Electricity, roads, schools are for all of us but when you are poor, it affects you alone. If you are poor and near tarmac, you can’t sleep on the tarmac but you will go back to your house and poverty will be waiting for you,” Museveni said.
“When I went to Kisozi, I was looking for wealth. There was land and grass and since cattle doesn’t eat tarmac or use electricity but eat grass, I went there and became wealthy. Tarmac came later and found me already wealthy.”
Museveni asked the population to take this message seriously and join the wealth creation movement, by using funds like Parish Development Model and Emyooga among others to start small and later grow big.
He gave examples of people who used the coffee seedlings given out under Operation Wealth Creation whom he said are reaping big.
According to Museveni, it is foolhardy for opposition politicians to stop the population from benefitting from government services, whom he said are people’s enemies.
Speaking during the same rally, First Lady, Janet Museveni warned the population against voting opposition, noting that these( opposition) are against the country’s unity and peace.
