Africa-Press – Uganda. Kayunga District Woman Member of Parliament-elect, Harriet Nakweede, has boosted preparations for the upcoming Kabaka Birthday Run by donating sports gear to support participants in the district.
The donation comes as Buganda prepares to celebrate the birthday of Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II through the annual run, an event that has grown into a major platform for mobilising communities in the fight against HIV/Aids.
The Kabaka Birthday Run, now in its 13th edition, is scheduled for April 12, 2026, under a theme encouraging men to take a leading role in ending HIV/Aids and protecting the girl child.
Over the years, the run has attracted thousands of participants and raised funds to support HIV awareness, testing, and prevention efforts across Uganda.
Nakweede’s contribution of sports gear is intended to enable more people—especially youth and community groups in Kayunga—to actively take part in the run and embrace its health message.
Her gesture reflects the growing involvement of political leaders in community-driven initiatives aligned with Buganda Kingdom programmes.
The annual run not only marks the Kabaka’s birthday but also serves as a unifying platform that rallies Ugandans around key public health causes, particularly the fight against HIV/Aids.
