Nansana Holds Peaceful and Successful NRM Primaries

Africa-Press – Uganda. The National Resistance Movement (NRM) has successfully concluded its municipal primaries in Nansana Municipality, Wakiso District, in an event marked by peace, transparency, and enthusiastic participation.

The polls, held at Namulonge Church of Uganda Primary School in Busukuma Division, showcased the party’s organizational capacity and commitment to internal democracy.

Party members turned out in large numbers to elect their leaders, with many hailing the peaceful process as a reflection of growing political maturity within the NRM structures.

Muwanga Lutaaya, spokesperson for NRM in Wakiso District, praised the conduct of both voters and candidates.

“The enthusiasm exhibited by our members in Nansana Municipality is a clear reflection of our shared commitment to the NRM values and manifesto,” Lutaaya said.

“We expect those elected today to focus on community service, party mobilization, and advancing the development agenda.”

The most closely watched race was for the chairperson seat, contested between Robert Maseruka and Kyagulanyi Ali.

The highly competitive vote concluded with Maseruka winning decisively, securing 148 votes to Kyagulanyi’s 28.

Maseruka’s victory places him at the forefront of NRM leadership in the municipality and sets the tone for upcoming general election campaigns.

The primaries were lauded for their fairness, with election officials and observers ensuring that the process remained credible and orderly.

Voter education campaigns ahead of the vote also contributed to informed participation, particularly among first-time voters.

Significantly, the primaries drew active participation from women and youth—a testament to the party’s ongoing efforts to promote inclusivity.

Women candidates vied for several positions, and many young members were visible as both voters and aspirants.

Lutaaya emphasized that inclusion remains a priority for the NRM.

“We want to see more women and youth rise to leadership. Their input is critical to developing policies that respond to today’s challenges,” he added.

Although a few logistical issues were reported, including challenges with access to polling centers for some voters, party officials said such concerns would be addressed in future exercises.

In his acceptance speech, Maseruka called for unity and collaboration among party members.

“We must engage our communities, listen to their needs, and respond through action. I am committed to strengthening the NRM in Nansana and ensuring our presence is felt at all levels,” he said.

As the NRM now shifts its focus to general election preparations, the energy and discipline displayed during the primaries in Nansana serve as a promising foundation.

With a renewed mandate and strong grassroots support, the party hopes to solidify its influence in Wakiso and beyond.
