Napak Woman MP Candidates Trade Barbs after NRM Primaries

Africa-Press – Uganda. The recently concluded NRM primaries for the Napak District Woman MP flagbearer have erupted into controversy, as leading contenders Faith Nakut and Stella Namoe accuse each other in the wake of a tightly contested race.

Ms Namoe, a former Member of Parliament, has rejected the results outright, alleging that the election was marred by irregularities and manipulation.

“There was clear vote manipulation. We saw irregularities at polling stations, and some of our agents were denied access,” Namoe said.

“This is not the voice of the people—the process was flawed from the start up to tallying.”

Ms Nakut, the incumbent MP who was declared winner, also expressed dissatisfaction—not with the electoral process, but with the margin of her victory.

She argued that her development record should have earned her a more decisive win.

“Yes, I won—but I deserved more votes,” Nakut said. “I served my term diligently and brought tangible development to Napak. I expected the people to reward that with a stronger mandate.”

Ms Nakut highlighted improvements in education, health, and livelihood projects during her tenure as evidence of her contribution to the district.

Ms Namoe, who lost her seat in the last election, had hoped to stage a comeback. She said her return to politics was motivated by a desire to complete community development projects she started during her previous term.

“I came back because there were projects I initiated that were abandoned. I wanted to complete the work I began for my people,” she said.

The dispute between the two women has intensified post-election tensions in Napak and adds to a growing list of contested NRM primaries across the Karamoja sub-region.

NRM electoral officials declined to comment on the accusations, advising candidates to file formal complaints with the party’s election tribunal.

Political observers warn that unresolved internal disputes could weaken the NRM’s cohesion ahead of the 2026 general elections if not addressed through transparent and fair mechanisms.
