Africa-Press – Uganda. In a vibrant ceremony held in Adjumani Town Council, the Rotary Club of Adjumani celebrated its Charter Anniversary and ushered in new leadership, marking another milestone in its community service journey.
Rotarian Brenda Tideru was officially installed as the second Charter President of the club, taking over from Rotarian Richard AP Akuku, the founding president.
The event, attended by Rotarians from across the West Nile sub-region and beyond, drew representatives from Obongi, Nebbi, Moyo, Arua City, and Gulu City.
In his farewell address, outgoing president Richard AP Akuku, now recognized as the First Past President of the club, reflected on the club’s achievements since its chartering.
“We have made significant impact in a short time,” Akuku said.
“From distributing irrigation kits to six refugee host communities, to organizing the Ma’di Cancer Run with over 300 participants, to supporting cancer patients with transport to Kampala for specialized treatment. We’ve also provided scholarships to needy students and distributed sanitary pads to girls under the ‘Pad the Girl’ initiative.”
Incoming president Brenda Tideru expressed gratitude for the trust bestowed upon her and outlined her vision for the new Rotary year.
“I am honored to build on the solid foundation laid by my predecessor,” Tideru said. “My leadership will focus on enhancing stakeholder engagement and expanding our charity programs to reach even more vulnerable communities in Adjumani District.”
William Ambayo, the club’s former Public Relations Officer, highlighted the growth in membership and the club’s rising profile within the Rotary fraternity.
“We are now 27 active members, and the interest from new potential Rotarians continues to grow,” Ambayo noted. “The energy within the club is inspiring.”
The evening’s program was punctuated with moments of reflection on service, recognition of achievements, and renewed pledges to uphold the Rotary motto of “Service Above Self.”
